Lush
Jazz Paul Weideman Dec. 14, 2001--Pasatiempo
Guitarist Lewis Winn and double-bassist Jon Gagan have
come up with a mellow jazz-blues disc that's a perfect complement to a winter fireside.
Two Tone, on Six-One Six-One Records, contains six songs by Winn and four by Gagan, all
featuring a lush, swinging sound.
Gagan has made music with Winn around the Southwest for more than two decades. Winn
teaches jazz harmony and guitar to private students in Albuquerque and one day a week he
teaches at the College of Santa Fe. Gagan has recorded and toured for 12 years with
acoustic guitarist Ottmar Liebert, a German -born Santa Fean who has popularized flamenco
on a dozen albums since 1990's Nouveau Flamenco. Gagan also recorded recently with
guitarist/banjo player Tom Adler (Borrowed Car, 1999) and Paul del Lago (Who Came to Call,
2000).
